I’m so distracted lately that I read Lilith’s last post title as “Getting Laid on the Street…” I soooo need a vacation.
I’m currently writing my seventh contracted book, which is the fifth and final installment of my Immortality Bites vampire series. And I am here to testify that the more you write, the easier it […]

Getting Paid, Life On The Street, And Possessives/Contractions
June 27, 2008; 1:12 pm
Welcome to another Friday writing post, my dears. Before we go further, I’d like to point you toward this post by Jeaniene Frost, about money. She demystifies a lot of it.
Look, it does take a couple years to get paid at this line of work. I was talking to the guy who’s going to reshingle […] -
The count down is starting!
June 26, 2008; 2:01 pm
I’m pretty excited because the first book in my new Talions series will be out in just over a month. So far the reviews have been great, so that will help keep me sane until it actually hits the stands. Anyway, I thought it was time to post and excerpt, […]

HOTTER THAN HELL anthology is out!
June 24, 2008; 3:14 pm
“Hotter than Hell” is an anthology that both Lilith and I are in, and it’s out today!
“Beyond the boundaries of the everyday is an unseen realm where anything you imagine is possible. Your demon lover is waiting for you in the shadows, ready to fulfill your secret wishes and most dangerous fantasies. Here passion has […] -
In Defense of Genre, And Artistic Compression
June 20, 2008; 2:10 pm
I woke up this morning with a serious case of the crankies. So if I seem a little bloody-minded, dears, that’s why.
I had a whole post about genre planned, but it would probably devolve into a huge slaughter of innocent verbage, full of recondite brimstone and unfounded combative assertions. Such is my mood. So I’ll […] -
A helpful hint
June 19, 2008; 7:53 am
Or at least I hope it is. I was writing a talk this week and wanted to include a list of books I think are worthwhile reading on the craft and business of wrting. It occurred to me that I can’t remember ever seeing anyone recommend one other source of information on […]

Worldbuilding
June 17, 2008; 10:09 am
No matter what genre you write in, you have to build a whole new world, including comtemporary suspense–yes, suspense! I’m dealing with that now and it is so not easy.
In paranormal books, you can easily see that because it *is* a new world. Because this blog is paranormal, we’ll look at paranormal worldbuilding.
Type of World
Earth-alternative?

My Hack Manifesto
June 13, 2008; 2:19 pm
Good morning. I hope you’re comfortable? Good, good. Have a cuppa, settle in.
This last week I was informed that my writing advice was utter crap and nobody wanted to hear it because I am a hack.
As my friend Neutronjockey pointed out:
I believe the word “hack” is derived from the horseworld. A hack being a […] -
Where do they come from?
June 12, 2008; 7:33 am
I sometimes wonder how many characters and stories are fermenting in the back of my mind at any one time. In the last three weeks I’ve started writing what will be my sixth Paladin book, done the copyedits on the fifth Paladin book, and the final polish on my second Talion book […]

THERE COMES A TIME
June 10, 2008; 10:14 am
when you have to say enough is enough.
Earlier this week It cost me $4.29 a gallon for super unleaded gas for my BMW SUV–I have the smaller version, the X3 and I have *loved* it–I adore driving it. But multiply$4.29 a gallon times 17 gallons.
$72.93?????
It takes me half a tank to go across town and […] -

Random, Quick, And Dirty Ways To Write Better
June 6, 2008; 6:26 pm
So I’m posting late today, mostly because I was out with the kids and the Selkie. There was a book sale, one that we had high hopes for but were kind of let down by. But it was nice to get out of the house and further nice to see once more that my little […]

Inspiration
June 3, 2008; 10:58 am
For fun I thought I’d share some of what I have used for inspiration:
Here’s the biggest piece of inspiration this writer could have:Sigh.
I wrote a series called the “Wild” series, that has been sold to St. Martin’s Press and is now called the “Armed & Dangerous” series. This is Luke Denver of the second book in the […]
